Lynn, MA Powder Coating | Advanced Powder Coating Solutions

Standard Coating Spec for Aluminum

  • Evaluation and Pretreatment
    • All work pieces submitted to Advanced Powder Coating Solutions will be evaluated to determine the preparation necessary for a quality finish. The primary surface characteristics determining the pretreatment process are as follows:
      • Soil Level – Heavy grease, machine oils, mold release agents, and general chemical contamination will be removed via high pressure steam and appropriate surfactants (degreasers, emulsifiers, and cleaners).
      • Surface Condition – After chemical cleaning the aluminum receives alight etch via a proprietary surface conditioning agent
    • An advanced polymer coating is then applied to the work piece. The polymer coating further promotes corrosion resistance and is an excellent base for superior adhesion of the topcoat.
    • Following an appropriate cool down period work pieces requiring a two-coat system are then coated with a manufacturer specific primer to provide maximum anti-corrosion protection. Those requiring a single coat system receive no primer.
    • Applications requiring compliance to AAMA specifications can receive a Kynar500 topcoat or a hyperdurable perflouropolymer. TGIC polyester or urethane polyester powders can be applied to pieces with less stringent requirements. Interior applications receive an epoxy or epoxy hybrid for excellent hardness and wearability.

NOTE: All chemical cleaners used by Advanced Powder Coating Solutions are the finest commercially available bio-degradeable products

Standard Coating Spec for Steel

  • Evaluation and Pretreatment
    • All work pieces submitted to Advanced Powder Coating Solutions will be evaluated to determine the preparation necessary for a quality finish. The primary surface characteristics determining the pretreatment process are as follows:
      • Soil Level – Heavy grease, machine oils, mold release agents, and general chemical contamination will be removed via high pressure steam and appropriate surfactants (degreasers, emulsifiers, and cleaners).
      • Surface Condition – After chemical cleaning the surface is evaluated to determine whether abrasive blasting is required to further condition the work piece. Advanced Powder Coating Solutions recommends grit blasting with 80 grit garnet for work that requires a high gloss and smooth surface
    • An iron phosphate treatment is then applied to the work piece. The iron phosphate coating further promotes corrosion resistance and is an excellent base for superior adhesion of the coating.
    • The next step to ensure the best possible coating adhesion requires the application of a non-chrome sealing agent certified as an appropriate treatment by powder manufacturers.
    • All castings are then baked at a temperature that is higher than the recommended cure temperature (approx. 50° higher) to eliminate out-gassing and subsequent pinholes in the coating.
    • Following an appropriate cool down period the work pieces are then coated with an epoxy primer to provide maximum anti-corrosion protection.
    • Outdoor applications receive a TGIC polyester or urethane polyester powder for superior weatherability. Interior applications receive an epoxy or epoxy hybrid resulting in excellent hardness and wearability.
